FAQ

DO I NEED A REFERRAL TO SEE A PSYCHOLOGIST?

It is not necessary to have a referral. However, if you wish to claim a rebate through Medicare then a referral or a Mental Health Care Plan is required from your GP. Please see your GP to discuss this further.

WHAT IS A MENTAL HEALTH CARE PLAN?

A Mental Health Care Plan from your GP enables a client to access up to 10 sessions in a calendar year with a psychologist, where a partial rebate from Medicare can be received. After 6 sessions, you will need to see your GP for a re-referral. Your GP will assess your progress, and determine whether further sessions are necessary.

HOW LONG IS A SESSION AND HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The Australian Psychological Society (APS) recommends that standard psychological consultations run for 45-60 minutes at a cost of $280.00. Psychologists are able to adjust this fee at their discretion. Please contact Jones & Co for our fee schedule.

HOW DO I CLAIM A MEDICARE REBATE?

With a valid referral/Mental Health Care Plan, Jones & Co can process your Medicare rebate for you. After your session, an invoice will be emailed to you. Once you have made payment via bank transfer, the rebate can be paid directly back into your bank account. For sessions for your child or adolescent, please supply Medicare card details with their name listed. The rebate amount varies depending on the qualifications of your treating clinician.

CAN I USE MY PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE?

Please consult your private health insurance provider as cover varies depending on individual policies. Private health insurance cannot be used to top up rebates from Medicare, and it is up to you to make a claim with your insurer directly.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

Cancellations with more than 48 hours' notice do not incur a fee. Less than 48 hours' notice attracts a cancellation fee equal to 50% of the consultation fee. For less than 24 hours' notice (including non-attendance) a cancellation fee equal to 100% of the consultation fee applies. Weekends are not counted when calculating 24 or 48 hours’ notice. Adequate notice must be given during business hours, and within business days. For example, cancelling at 11am on a Friday for a session at 9am on Monday is less than 24 hours’ notice, and a 100% cancellation fee would apply. Any subsequent appointments will not take place until cancellation fees are settled. Please note there is no Medicare rebate available on cancellation fees. In cases of genuine illness or misadventure, please contact the clinic.
